Anatomy & Physiology Classes
Customized for the Bowenwork Practitioner
The United States and Canada Bowen Registry accepts this Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) program, customized for Bowenwork technique and taught by an Accredited Bowenwork Practitioner.
What classes are available?
- Scanlon Anatomy & Physiology (84 hrs)
- Tortora Anatomy & Physiology (164 hrs)
- Anatomy for Bowenwork (36 hrs)
- Muscles & Palpation of Surface Anatomy Seminar (16 hrs)
The Anatomy and Physiology courses are available online or through home study. In either course, the student will learn the organization and functions of the human body. In addition to the general text, supplements describing the relationship of each chapter to Bowenwork technique are provided to help the student focus on areas of particular importance to the technique. The Scanlon A&P course is an introductory collegiate course geared for those with minimal medical or science background. The Tortora A&P course is a more advanced level course for those who desire a deeper understanding of all the terms and medical conditions discussed in the Bowenwork manual. Individuals who have a strong background and enjoy an academic challenge will appreciate and benefit from this course.
The Anatomy for Bowenwork course is available online or through home study. The muscles and anatomy of specific regions where Bowenwork moves occur are studied in depth so that practitioners can improve performance of moves. The course will also help them understand what structures they are challenging and stimulating.
The Muscle & Palpation of Surface Anatomy Seminar is a two-day class. Brief lectures followed by opportunities for palpation and identification of bony landmarks and muscles pertinent to the Bowenwork procedures make this a unique learning opportunity. Ample time is available for students to practice and gain confidence in palpation. Class size will be limited to allow for individualized attention.
Who should take these classes and when?
The classes may be taken by anyone, at anytime, in any order, depending on the needs of an individual person. For a student with minimal anatomy background and palpation skills, the Seminar could be taken early in the module technique sequence. The sooner the student is exposed to muscles and gains confidence in palpating the body, the more information they can absorb during the technique modules. The Seminar is also a good review for those preparing for Module 7, or an accredited practitioner wishing to enhance or review their anatomy knowledge and palpation skills.
How can I meet the A&P requirement necessary for professional accreditation?
Successful completion of two classes plus a passing grade of 75% or more on the comprehensive final exam fulfill the anatomy and physiology requirement for certification as an Accredited Bowenwork Practitioner (100 hours for US and 120 hours for Canada).
Yikes! A Comprehensive Exam?
The designation of "Accredited Bowenwork Practitioner" connotes quality and competence. To assure this, a closed book, written comprehensive exam, covering the information of both classes, will be given in a proctored setting. This exam may be taken at the Seminar with the A&P instructor or, with a module instructor at a time and location mutually agreed upon.
